HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A fisherman drowned Sunday after he fell off a boat and into a lake in Highlands County.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, and Highlands County Fire Rescue said they responded to the scene of a single vessel incident on Lake Damon in Highlands County.

Investigators said two people were on board a 13-foot vessel fishing on Lake Damon when they both fell overboard and into the water.

While one of the fishermen struggled in the water, the other person tried to help them.

However, a short time later, the other person decided to swim back to the boat to call 911 for help.
