SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A Savannah man was sentenced in federal court to over eight years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Charles Harmon Porter, 54, was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison plus three years of supervised release, Margaret E. Heap, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia said.

Porter was arrested by the Savannah Police Department (SPD) on the night of May 29, 2023, after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection to a domestic shooting on Alma Street.

While being booked into the Chatham County jail, a round of ammunition was discovered in his pocket that, after examination, was determined to have been manufactured outside of Georgia, elevating the charge to a federal crime.
