CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - The South Carolina Aquarium has reached a significant milestone today by officially recording four million pieces of litter in their Litter Journal.
The Litter Journal, part of the South Carolina Aquarium Citizen Science app, invites the public to help monitor and remove plastics and other debris from both land and sea. The project aims to improve human health, promote habitat conservation, and protect wildlife.
The project started in 2016, and over the past nine years, the South Carolina Aquarium announced today that four million pieces of litter have been removed from the earth, bringing them closer to their goals.
The South Carolina Aquarium indicates that collected data influences conversations, decisions, and changes regarding plastic use in South Carolina
