BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - Big bucks are headed to help a McLean County neighborhood without a sewer system.

A $30,000 grant from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency was awarded to the Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District to conduct a study providing the unincorporated subdivision of Colonial Meadows with a sanitary sewer system.

The grant helps offset the $50,000 study cost, which will determine if a sewer system can be installed in the subdivision located off of Oakland Avenue.

Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District Executive Director Tim Ervin said the sewer system would replace the homes’ septic tanks, protect the groundwater, and tackle stormwater runoff, which he said has been an issue since the 1970s.
