LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Students at the University of Louisville hosted a vigil for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed in Utah last week.

The students who organized the vigil said it was not just to remember Kirk, but to call for unity and an end to violence.

It's a call shared by students and elected officials alike.

"I didn't want tonight, this vigil to be a political event I wanted it to be an event, of course, honoring Charlie, but also disregardless [sic] of your backgrounds, to come together and just pray with one another," said UofL College republicans chairman Dyllan Tipton.

City and state lawmakers also attended the event, echoing the same sentiment.
