FLORENCE- Ian Vachon hasn't just taken the road less travelled. His road can't even be found on a map.

"I think I'm kind of one-of-a-kind in my journey," Vachon told WAAY-31.

The Madison Academy alum first kicked at Birmingham Southern, but the school closed its doors in 2024. He then walked on at Auburn, rising from backup to helping the Tigers beat Texas A&M in a four-overtime thriller last November.

Vachon re-entered the transfer portal in the winter, and found himself closer to home, kicking for the North Alabama Lions. On Saturday, he made a 55-yard field goal against Northeastern State. That broke the previous school record of 54 yards. Vachon was aware of the school record when he arrived in Florence and made it a goal to break it.
