LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville Metro Council members are looking for a way to keep up with data centers.
A moratorium on new permits is on the table as the city looks for ways to regulate the facilities.
Members of the Metro Council Planning and Zoning Committee voted Tuesday to postpone a plan to impose a temporary moratorium on new permits.
“We need to take a step back and look and see what boundaries we can put along where data centers can be located,” Betsy Ruhe, Metro Council District 21, said. “They do have a significant impact on our community, on our city, and on our utility rates.”
Data Centers house the machines that handle the massive amounts of data needed for future technologies like AI.
