MUNFORD, Tenn. - Fire ripped through a Mid-South apartment complex on Saturday.
Munford Police Chief Randal Baskin said that blaze broke out at the Surreywood Apartments on September 13. Baskin said officers were met with heavy smoke coming out of one of the units.
Investigators determined that the fire had been set intentionally and learned that the man believed to be responsible, Lazarick Ballard, had fled the area. Officers found Ballard nearby and took him into custody. He's been charged with aggravated arson and was booked into Tipton County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
Baskin said the apartment complex was evacuated due to the smoke and water damage. The American Red Cross provided assistance for people who were displaced by the fire.
