My grandfather lived to be over 100 years old. His name was JD Holman, and he grew up in a house in Ozark called the Holman House. If you are in the area, stop by as it’s on the National Register of Historic Sites. JD’s family was in the mule business (the tractors of that time), and his go-to story that he or others would tell at his birthday party involved the mule trade. The story goes that a man walked in to buy a mule and asked if there were any on sale. JD’s father, the proprietor of the stable, told him he had one in the back for half price, ($2), but he had to warn the customer that the mule didn’t look so good. The customer saw the mule, said he looked fine, bought the mule and left. He returned the next day and told them that the mule was blind as a bat, and my great grandfather
