CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. — A driver was cited after striking a horse last Thursday evening in the 2000 block of Sandpiper Road, authorities said.
The Currituck County Sheriff’s Department said the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when a horse ran into the path of a southbound vehicle on Sandfiddler Road. The horse fell but was able to stand and rejoin its group, and did not sustain serious injuries.
The driver was charged under Currituck County Ordinance Sec. 3-34, which requires anyone injuring a wild horse to immediately notify animal control or the sheriff’s department. The male driver pleaded guilty, paid fines and court costs, and was released.
