MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Forecasters are watching two systems in the Atlantic, one of which could potentially impact the southeastern United States next week.

Tropical Storm Humberto, which formed on Wednesday, is forecast to become a major hurricane and could influence another system to its west.

In the National Hurricane Center’s 5 a.m. update, Humberto was located roughly 480 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.

“The good news about Humberto is we are anticipating it to stay out to sea,” said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Jed Christoph.

A tropical wave of interest, known as Invest 94L, is located to the west of Humberto, which Storm Team 2 is keeping an eye on due to its proximity to the southeastern United States.
