RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) — The tropics are heating up right now, and the 12 On Your Side First Alert Weather Team is monitoring a pair of systems closely in the Atlantic.
Tropical Storm Humberto is located several hundred miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands and is forecast to strengthen into a major hurricane over the weekend.
The most likely track for Humberto is between the Island of Bermuda and the East Coast of the U.S.
Of greater concern is a tropical wave currently located near Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. This system has a 90% chance of becoming a tropical system over the next several days and will likely be named “Imelda.”
The latest forecast data indicates that as it moves into the Bahamas, this will probably get better organized by the weekend.
