MADISON, CT (WFSB) - Police are warning phone calls involving alleged outstanding warrants are nothing but a scam.

Madison police say scammers are calling residents claiming they are from a local police department and demanding money to resolve outstanding warrants.

The residents are being told they must pay by sending cash, Bitcoin, or other untraceable methods to avoid being arrested.

Officials remind the public that law enforcement agencies will never call to demand payment and are urging residents to hang up immediately when contacted.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this scam can call Madison Police at 203-245-6500.
