A couple in Swanton has a new roof over their head, thanks to a program that donates roofing materials and labor to local veterans.
Kris Harmon, a 19-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and his wife Amanda Harmon are the most recent recipients of a new roof through Roof Ohio and Owens Corning’s Roof Deployment Project.
Mr. Harmon retired from his service last year for medical reasons including mobility issues, and said the couple’s fixed income can make paying for large expenses, like a roof, difficult.
“It’s taken some adjusting, I’m not going to lie,” Mr. Harmon said. “We’ve had quite a few financial constraints throughout our time together, and the roof is definitely a project that’s a big-ticket item that’ll help us be able to hopefully ... make the home more accessible for myself.”
