PEORIA, Ariz. — On the outskirts of Peoria -- where wild burros currently roam -- Amkor Technology Inc. broke ground on a $7 billion investment that's expected to create thousands of new jobs.

The groundbreaking ceremony brought together elected officials, industry leaders, and company leaders.

Once completed, it will be the first U.S.-based high-volume advanced packaging facility for a company that handles the finishing touches for semiconductor chips, making them ready to be used in phones, cars and computers.

Upon completion of both phases, the campus will offer over 750,000 square feet of cleanroom space and as many as 3,000 high-quality jobs.
