ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WIS) - Classes at South Carolina State University will once again be canceled on Tuesday after a pair of weekend shootings on campus that left one person dead and another hurt.
The Saturday night shootings resulted in the death of 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler, as well as one other person being hurt.
On Sunday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division announced the arrest of 18-year-old Matthew Daniel McCoy, of Blythewood, following the shootings. McCoy has been charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and carrying a weapon on school property.
SC State President Alexander Conyers confirmed Monday that Butler, McCoy and the second gunshot victim are not students at the school. Conyers also said he plans to meet with students at the school during a town
