Visitors to the Carolina Classic Fair are showing up hungry.

Over the first three days of the annual event, customers consumed more than $1 million worth of food from vendors, Fair Director Cheryle Hartley told the Winston-Salem City Council on Monday.

The city’s cut of food-related income for the opening weekend was $174,000, up from $155,000 for the same period a year ago, Hartley reported.

Revenue from midway rides is also on the rise, with $633,000 this year compared to $627,000 in 2024.

“These numbers and the community response highlight how much the fair continues to embrace Winston-Salem and the surrounding areas,” said Hartley, who is retiring after 35 years with the city and 30 editions of what was once known as the Dixie Classic Fair.
