ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is asking the public for its opinion on a proposed interstate expansion project in Cobb and Fulton counties.

The project would add two express lanes in each direction along a 10-mile corridor on I-285 between Mt. Wilkinson Parkway in Cobb County and Benjamin E. Mays Drive in Fulton County. Previously, only one lane was planned to be built in each direction.

According to the transportation department, more than 150,000 cars visit that stretch of road every day. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve bus transit lines.

The public is invited to view project displays and ask questions on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Emma Darnell Aviation Museum and Conference Center.
