HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Huntersville is moving away from an aging fire station on the west side of town.

On Tuesday, town commissioners agreed to purchase land on N.C. 73 near Blythe Landing for the new Fire Station No. 2. The current station on Beatties Ford Road dates back to 1967, and Town Manager Anthony Roberts says power lines through the property make expansion difficult.

"There's not a lot properties out there with the right location," he said.

The future station will sit on 9 acres along N.C. 73, costing the town $900,095. The busy highway is slated to be widened through northern Mecklenburg County with a median beginning in 2026. Roberts said the N.C. Department of Transportation has agreed to add a cut-through in front of the station.
