A federal judge has indicated that she will support the end of the New Orleans Police Department's years-long consent decree.

Judge Susie Morgan, who has been over the consent decree for 12 years, filed a motion in court Thursday saying that she would support ending the consent decree amid requests from local, state, and federal parties. Advertisement

This comes just months after Morgan implemented a two-year sustainment period for the NOPD.

The consent decree will not end outright due to the matter still being reviewed in the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

According to Morgan's order, she will grant the motion for relief from the consent decree if the appeals court sends the case back to her court for the purpose of her motion being granted.
