CASSIA COUNTY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Cassia County Sheriff’s Office has received an increase in reports of scam calls from someone claiming to be Sgt. Howard with the sheriff’s office, according to a Facebook post.
The scam callers say the person has a warrant or criminal subpoena and demand payment by gift card or other online methods, threatening arrest.
The sheriff’s office and Cassia County courts reiterate they will never call someone to demand payment or request financial information to avoid arrest; just hang up. Do not give any personal information including financial information.
To verify any claim, hang up and call 208-878-2251, ext. 1, for dispatch or ext. 6 for courts.
