SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Maine’s hunting options are nearly limitless with moose, grouse, deer, duck, and other game seasons available each year. However, before heading out the door, it is best to read up on safe practices.
The state offers specialized safety courses, taught by trained instructors, for various types of hunting and trapping.
NEWS CENTER Maine sat in on one of the firearms safety courses hosted at the Scarborough Fish & Game Association to see firsthand what is covered.
Mike Richard, a thirty-year veteran instructor and lifelong hunter, was the teacher for Saturday's class.
“This is the skills and exam day. You are going to [do] a lot more hands-on stuff today,” Richard said.
Saturday’s course was the second and final in the home study regiment. This style of teaching has
