BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

One of Alabama's oldest African-American Catholic churches is celebrating its long history.

Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church is recognizing its 120th anniversary this month with special events and a unity Mass.

Members expressed pride in their association with the historic church. "This church parish has fed into us...and we are solid in this parish," one member said.

Founded in 1905, the original building was demolished to make way for the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Medical Center.

A new parish was constructed in 1969 on 1st Street South.
