The Alabaster City Council voted on a new food truck ordinance Tuesday. The goal for city leaders was to help protect brick-and-mortar restaurants.

The city council voted to update a recently passed food truck ordinance. Part of that ordinance covers licensing and permitting, and some food truck owners feel those fees can be expensive.

The updated ordinance states that food trucks must be at least 200 feet away from the physical location of a brick-and-mortar restaurant. City attorney Jeff Brumlow says the city passed its first food truck ordinance in 2016, but it was time to update it.
