CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day are being observed Monday, Oct. 13, meaning some places will be closed or have modified hours.

The two holidays -- although seen as controversial by some groups on both sides of the aisle -- celebrate Italian explorer Christopher Columbus’s arrival to the Americas while also honoring the resilience, history and contributions made to society by Native Americans.

These observances mean that all federal buildings and offices are closed, along with some state services.
