NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (KOLN) - In 1925, a husband and wife left their day jobs to grow apples in Nebraska City. This year, Kimmel Orchard and Vineyard is celebrating their 100th anniversary.

The special place continues to promotes research and agricultural education a century later.

Students file onto the hayrack ride on the property to learn about where their food comes from.

Len Weyenth refers to it as a “living classroom” that’s a century old.

The apple trees on the property were planted by Richard Kimmel, a banker, and Laurine Kimmel, a schoolteacher, in 1925.
