LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada lawmakers are expected to approve a $7.3 million grant to fund the WIC Program as the federal government shutdown continues.

The Interim Finance Committee of the Nevada Legislature is scheduled to consider the grant at its Thursday meeting. The request was submitted by the Governor's Office of Emergency Management.

WIC — a federal nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children — provides food aid for millions of low-income mothers and their young children across the nation. It's an important source of fruits and vegetables, low-fat milk and infant formula for many families. Last week, the Trump administration announced it was using $300 million in tariff revenues to keep the program afloat.
