LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The State of Michigan has issued a new grant to promote clean-energy school buses.

About $35.9 million from the Michigan Department of Education’s Clean Bus Energy Program will help 23 school districts obtain 87 new electric buses and 10 propane buses.

“Children and others in their communities benefit from cleaner air,” said Interim State Superintendent Dr. Sue C. Carnell in a statement.

“We are happy to work with our partners at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to make our state greener. The Clean Bus Energy Grant program helps us move toward Goal 3 in Michigan’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan , to improve the health, safety, and wellness of all learners.”
