RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN/AP) - State Democratic leaders have responded to GOP efforts to redraw congressional maps in hopes of helping Republicans win more seats.

Republican lawmakers said Monday they plan to vote next week on a new U.S. House map for the state, following President Trump’s call to gain more GOP seats and counter Democrats.

GOP leaders drew a map in 2023 that helped them win 10 of the state’s 14 House seats in 2024.

Governor Josh Stein responded to the earlier announcement:

“The General Assembly works for North Carolina, not Donald Trump.
