As Josh Naylor rounded the bases in the top of the seventh, the Rogers Centre was close to silent. Some of the only cheers came from a block of seats on the first base line. You might as well call them Naylor’s seats.

Naylor, from Mississauga, blew Monday’s game wide open with his three-run bomb, turning a 6-3 ballgame into a 9-3 rout as his family and friends looked on. Naylor is the type of guy who would much rather talk about the team than himself — when he and his wife welcomed their first child last week, he politely declined to speak about it, citing the privacy of his family life — but he gave us a peek into what that homer meant.

“It was,” he said, “a really cool moment for them.”
