A mother has escaped a fatal house fire that claimed the life of her daughter on the New South Wales Mid North Coast.
Emergency services were called to a two-storey home at Dillon Close in Bellingen, west of Coffs Harbour, shortly after 5am on Tuesday.
A NSW Police spokesperson said the house was occupied by a mother and her daughter, who lived with disability.
While a 78-year-old woman was able to escape the blaze, her adult daughter could not be located.
Coffs Clarence Police Inspector Peter O'Reilly said the body of a woman was found inside the building after the fire was extinguished.
"That person has not been identified, [but] it's believed to be the second resident," he said.
