A woman has told an inquest how she put her six-day-old granddaughter into the cavity of a roof when a wave of flood water hit the Central West town of Eugowra in 2022.

Anne South has given evidence on day two of the inquest into the deaths of two people during the disaster.

Ms South was the last person to see one of the victims, Les Vujec, 85, alive on the morning of November 14, 2022.

She told the court she saw her elderly neighbour in his backyard, asking for help, when what she described as an "inland tsunami" hit.

"It just filled the sky as it was coming along. I was just thinking, 'I've got to run,'" Ms South told the court.

"I said, 'Les, you need to run', and I took off because it looked like it was coming fast," she said.
