A man accused of pointing an imitation gun at strangers during a string of carjackings in Melbourne on Tuesday was already on bail for allegedly stealing a man’s car on Sunday, a court has been told.
The man apologised to one victim for ruining their day and offered to buy another a Lamborghini, before being arrested in a hotel lift by specialist police in Melbourne’s CBD on Tuesday, Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard.
A bruised and battered Simon Michael Davies, 48, from Hoppers Crossing, faced the court on Wednesday via video link from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he was handcuffed to a bed. The court was told he had sustained broken ribs and a broken eye socket and left arm during his arrest after being spotted smoking a cigarette by police in the centre of the city.
