BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Tuesday sparked a new era in Broome County as BC Transit launched its first fully electric buses.

The buses were funded primarily through federal and state grants, with the project costing a total of $10.4 million.

$3.3 million of which was awarded by Governor Hochul and the New York State Department of Transportation to add an additional three electric buses to the existing fleet.

DOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez says the program is awarding a total of $80 million to seven transit providers across the state to expand the use of zero-emission vehicles.
