An Italian Renaissance Revival-style house, construction began on the Roberson Mansion in 1904 and was completed in 1907. It belonged to successful lumber company president and banker Alonzo Roberson Jr. and his wife, Margaret Roberson.
Upon Alonzo Roberson Jr.'s death in 1934, his will requested that the home be turned into an educational center after his widow's passing, for the use and benefit of all people. Following Margaret Roberson's death, the Roberson Memorial Center opened to the public in 1954. It initially functioned as an arts and cultural center, hosting dance classes and a painting studio.
