Des Moines Public Schools is placing the future of its multi-million-dollar plan to overhaul education across the district in the care of the newly created Reimagining Education Bond Oversight Committee, according to a district news release.
The appointment of an independent third-party committee to oversee the Reimagining Education, Reinvigorating Schools initiative comes in the wake of the Sept. 26 arrest of former Superintendent Ian Roberts and weeks before voters will decide whether to approve a $265 million bond to pay for the district's massive overhaul.
Since shortly after Roberts' arrest for overstaying a deportation order, the Des Moines School Board and officials have worked to try to shore up public trust in Iowa's largest and most diverse school district.
