SUNBURY, Ohio — On what would be the final shot of his prep career and with a trophy on the line, Pettisville senior Creighton Aeschliman didn’t flinch.

The Blackbirds were entrenched in a back-and-forth battle with Berlin Hiland for second place throughout the final round of the Division III state tournament Tuesday at NorthStar, which meant Aeschliman couldn’t afford to have a poor 18th hole.

After Hiland’s Andrew Beun recorded a birdie on the hole, Aeschliman found himself about 35 yards out on his third shot of the par-4 but delivered a chip shot that helped him match Beun’s birdie.

Considering Pettisville edged the Hawks by 2 strokes overall, it was an exclamation point on the best state performance in program history.
