KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Some students were escorted into school this morning after reports of shots-fired nearby.

The sound of ‘two gunshots’ were reported around 6:45 a.m. in the parking lot of a vacant K-Mart building near Plaza Middle School at I-29 and 72 Street, Thursday, October 15.

Out of an abundance of caution, Platte County Deputies walked some students into the school building as they began arriving. Classes began as scheduled at 7:15 a.m., according to a Park Hill School District spokesperson.

KCPD was said to be assisting in locating the source of the possible gunshots, as there are homes and businesses surrounding the middle school. The Platte County Sheriff’s Department has since called the gunshots ‘unfounded’.
