MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — To help immerse them in the autumn season, Sundale Nursing Home staff brought one of the season's greatest staples to its residents this week.
On Wednesday, residents of Sundale Nursing Home spent the day outdoors, enjoying a front-row view of the apple butter-making process, all with the help of the staff of WVU Medicine and WVU Hospice.
The nursing home hosted a celebration like this 30 years ago, but the idea to bring it back came alongside the help of Dr. Carl Shrader, Sundale's medical director, who also happened to have a killer apple butter recipe and all the supplies needed.
Staff from all around the nursing home helped out by peeling 10 bushels of apples for the process, with the expected supply output to be more than 39 gallons of apple butter.
