BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Almost half a million needles and syringes weren’t returned to the Howard Center’s exchange program last year. That’s according to data from inside the non-profit.

On Monday night, a city committee sent recommendations to the Burlington city council that aim to reduce litter.

The meeting comes after the news of a needle sticking a South Burlington elementary school student on the playground. While there was agreement that change is necessary, the community and the committee disagreed on how it should happen.

“What we’re doing now hasn’t been working,” said Burlington resident Christopher-Aaron Felker.
