MONTGOMERY – A 50-year-old employee of ASAP Scrap Recycling at 2780 Route 208 in the Town of Montgomery was killed late Wednesday morning when a cutting torch he was using exploded, Montgomery Town Police Chief John Hank said.

Town Police and Walden firefighters responded to a report of an explosion and found no active fire, but the victim was located.

Police did not release the name of the man who was a resident of Middletown.

An investigation is continuing by Montgomery Town Police.

Police were assisted by the Walden Fire Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and State Police.
