NEW ORLEANS — Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon was grazed by a bullet while confronting a shooter in Pierre Part on Thursday, Louisiana State Police confirmed.

According to troopers, the shooting happened at a home in the 500 block of Bayou Drive. that Falcon was nearby and responded.

When he arrived at the home, Falcon found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. He confronted the suspect, who opened fire, and Falcon was grazed by a bullet, according to the report.

Authorities said three people were injured during the incident, and one person was shot in the stomach. The weapon was a shotgun, authorities said. One person was airlifted to Lady of the Lake and the other was taken there by ambulance. The severity of their injuries is unknown.
