LUFKIN, Texas (KLTV) - The City of Lufkin has ordered a hotel to close its doors Thursday after an inspection found the place to be crawling with bed bugs and rodents.
The city’s inspection of Petty’s Motor Hotel found “major violations and unsafe conditions”, with “severe infestations of bed bugs, roaches, gnats and rodents” in several rooms, a release said.
The survey also found the building’s structure was unstable, lacked sprinklers and had plumbing failures, bathtubs that did not drain and holes in the walls for bugs to hide, according to the city.
An increase in emergency calls from the hotel, as well as responders noting the conditions, led to the investigation and eventually the shutdown.
