SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - A mother and daughter duo are sharing their story on how a difficult journey with cancer now helps them help others.
Andria Park, the mother of 19-year-old Alexandra Herrera, recalls the difficult fight her daughter had with cancer.
When she was just 13, Herrera was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. She says getting the news hurt the most.
“I didn’t really know what was happening. I was experiencing so much pain and just discomfort, and it was just a really confusing time for me because, what do you mean I have cancer? I’m 13.”
Rhabdomyosarcoma often forms in muscle tissues that support other parts of the body. In Herrera’s case, her cancer was found in her kidney.
