PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) - Alex Sarama has been named the head coach of Portland’s WNBA team.

On Friday, the Portland Fire announced the hiring of Alex Sarama as their head coach.

Sarama is no stranger to Rip City; he was an assistant coach with the Rip City Remix back in 2023.

He joins the Fire after most recently serving as assistant coach and director of player development for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“Alex represents the next generation of coaching,” said Fire General Manager Vanja Černivec. “He’s not just teaching the game, he’s transforming it. His approach to player development, grounded in evidence-based science, research and creativity, aligns with our vision to make Portland a global hub for innovation in women’s sports.”
