BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY THIS WEEKEND: One of the most impactful storm systems in weeks is on the way with rain and storms likely late Saturday night through the early morning hours on Sunday. There is a low-end risk for severe storms, but my main concern is damaging straight-line wind gusts, especially with the vegetation stressed by the drought. Even before the rain and storms arrive, southerly winds may gust over 30 mph through midnight.

Instability will be fading as this system moves east through the early morning hours on Sunday and the risk for an isolated tornado will be limited to the far northwest corner of the state.
