Counterfeiting: Detroit Road

Officers responded at 9:45 p.m. Oct. 4 to the Sunoco gas station on Detroit Road after a clerk reported that a man passed fake currency to pay for a transaction.

The suspect rode off on a bicycle after being confronted by the clerk. Officers located the man riding with a headlamp near Detroit and Mendelssohn Drive. He said that he had just been paid with the bills by his “boss” for a painting job in the area, but he could not describe where this job had been nor who his boss was.

Officers found additional fake currency on the 49-year-old, who listed an Avon Lake residence. They arrested the suspect, and he was charged with counterfeiting.
