COLUMBUS, Ohio — is participating in the 44th annual "Blood Battle" competition against the University of Michigan.

Ahead of The Game each year, rival schools Ohio State and Michigan compete to donate blood for local patients. Last year, the Buckeyes brought home the win with 1,707 pints of blood collected.

Ohio State is looking to bring home its fourth straight "Blood Battle" title.

The competition is stretched over a five-week period, beginning on Oct. 22 and ending on Nov. 26.

A kickoff event for the drive will be held Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center.

All donors who go to the kickoff event will receive a limited edition T-shirt and will be eligible to win two tickets to the Ohio State vs. Penn State game on Nov. 1, as well as a mini helmet signed by head
