BEDFORD, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Bedford County couple was sentenced Monday on charges relating to the hoarding of dozens of cats inside their Everett home.

Amanda Vandergroef and Matthew Calhoun faced hundreds of counts of animal cruelty and neglect. Both were arrested in January after police rescued 67 cats from the couple's home. In the arrest records, police described the home as 'biohazardous' due to the amount of animal waste inside.

Both Vandergroef and Calhoun pleaded guilty to 30 counts of cruelty to animals in July. They were sentenced to five to 23 months in prison for each charge, with sentences running concurrently and credit for time served, followed by 24 months of probation. Neither are not allowed to own any animals for 60 years.
