RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A suspect is at large after an off-duty member of the Raleigh Fire Department was sent to the hospital in a hit-and-run crash Monday afternoon, the firefighter union said.

According to the Raleigh Professional Firefighters Association Local 548, the off-duty firefighter was hit by a car around 2:20 p.m. off Skycrest Road. At the time of the incident, he was removing a tree for his job with TSR Tree Service.

The firefighter was taken to the hospital after the crash. His condition is considered stable as of Tuesday morning. Witnesses believe he survived because he was wearing a helmet, according to Local 548.

The union said the driver did not stop after crash. A $1,000 reward is being offered by TSR Tree Service for information that leads to an arrest.
